GENERAL SUMMARY:
This individual will function as a Senior Operational Database Administrator for all our Microsoft SQL Servers (SQL 2000, SQL 2005). This individual may also be cross trained to support Oracle and/or Sybase Database Management Systems. This job may include but is not limited to providing 24X7 on call support when required. The senior level DBA will be required to mentor junior team members, stay abreast of current developments in the DBMS industry, and to perform other duties as defined by the Manager of the Database Services Team or Team Lead.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Work with offshore/outsourced DBAs to ensure the following maintenance is completed
o Daily review of server logs and any corrective action
o Deployment of schema and data changes into the Quality Control and Production environments
o Verify DBMS maintenance plans and adjust as necessary
o Administer server and database access compliant to the security model
o Backup and recovery operations
o Build database servers as required
o Ensure the optimal use of the automated alerts via HP OpenView and other tools
o Insure the consistency of databases via jobs and/or manual operations
o Apply maintenance patches to database servers as required
o Ensure business contingency plans/routines are functioning as specified
· Demonstrate excellent troubleshooting skills (escalate when necessary) and server performance analysis skills.
· Provide off hours support when required
· Plan and manage projects of moderate complexity through completion
· Stay abreast of current developments in the industry which affect the database environment
· Create and maintain documentation of the database environment
· Write and maintain VBScripts and PowerShell scripts.
· Perform performance and tuning of the database environment
· Carry out other duties as assigned by the Manager or Team Lead
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
· Minimum of three years experience administering Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and/or SQL 2005
· Demonstrated troubleshooting and performance tuning skills
· Demonstrated understanding of database backup and recovery procedures
· Good English communication skills, verbal and written
· Good SQL coding skills
· Good understanding of relational database design
· Ability to work independently on complex problems
· Experience administering Oracle or Sybase Servers a plus
· Experience with Windows 2000/2003 Clustered Servers a plus
· Experience with VBScript, PowerShell or scripting technology a plus
· College degree required
